‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 3, episode 11 review: Who is the real Liam?
“Beauty and the Beast” is in so many ways a show about trying to stop the impossible. When you consider that, is there really anything that strange about a villain who just so happens to be hundreds of years old?
After tonight’s episode, maybe Liam is just a little bit stranger, but it’s all just in a day’s work for Vincent and Catherine. The big reveal tonight is that Liam’s age happens to bring back connections to the mythology that has already been established on the show. Suddenly, we toy with the notion of destiny. He was always meant to find Vincent and Catherine, and to use them to enact some sort of vengeance over what he lost. The problem for Vincent was at that first, he didn’t quite see this. He was blinded in a way by Liam being a beast. He found someone he could get some common ground with, and we know from his past that he tends to gravitate to the few out there who are like-minded.
Ultimately, once Vincent realized just what Liam really was on the inside, this allowed him to push him out of a building. Liam is still somehow alive, though, and this signals that the battle is far from over.
At this point, the show is a little more singular in focus, though it’s clear that JT and Tess are still also struggling when it comes to being forthcoming. JT is in a place where he realizes that he is not out of the woods yet when it comes to his own problems. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to handle them without causing more problems for others.
While this episode did not really resolve anything, it certainly did amp up the intensity … and we’re always happy for that. Grade: B+.
