‘The Astronaut Wives Club’ finale: With no season 2, what other stories are there?

Astronaut -Tonight marks the finale of “The Astronaut Wives Club,” and while it is fun to think about what a second season of the show could be (we even wrote about it earlier today), the reality is that it’s just not happening. This is a summer series meant to stand on its own, but we’re at least happy that it was here. It helped to tell a story that we honestly did not have much perspective about, and it was more great work for a number of actors who we also really like.

So with no second season of this, could there at least be a spiritual successor? Based on what executive producer Stephanie Savage had to say to Variety, that is something that she would be interested in exploring:

“One of the things that sort of keeps coming up is there’s not a second season of this. What could you do to keep this going? There are so many incredible stories of women in history that haven’t been told. I’d be very happy to do one every summer for the rest of my life. It’s the ‘20s and World War II and Wall Street and the ’80s — there’s so many worlds that can be explored and women have amazing stories that haven’t been told the way they should be.”

Given that the ratings for “The Astronaut Wives Club” were not exactly tremendous, we’re not entirely sure this will happen. With that being said, though, one of the appeals of this could be doing another project every year with a completely clean slate. There’s no risk of retaining viewers year-to-year.

What sort of era would you want to see Savage cover? (Personally, we’d be down for the ’20s.) Share below, and click here to get some other news on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ABC.)
