What ‘The Astronaut Wives Club’ season 2 could be

Astronaut -For all of those who are interested in “The Astronaut Wives Club,” you really do have to approach the finale Thursday night as though it is going to be the end of the series more so than just a temporary bump in the road on the way to another year. The ratings are not great for ABC, and given the fact that we are getting to the Moon landing presumably on Thursday night’s finale, there is nowhere else story-wise for the show to go … or is there?

The reality for this series is that if it drew enormous ratings, we imagine that maybe someone involved would have looked at continuing the story. It is not like the lives for Rene, Betty, and some of the other characters stopped the moment that the space race did, though they did move on to do some other things with their lives, holding firm to their past in their own way.

Ultimately, if you were to do more of the show you would probably have to get into the difficult position of fictionalizing real characters, given that it would be so difficult to get the regular cast together continually in the same room. The scope of their interactions even during the space race is probably one of the reasons why season 1 covered such a broad length of time. This was a show seemingly designed to tell a singular story, and it’s done that. There was never really any plan to give this show a second season.

You could have a chance to see some of the stars of this show on TV again soon. For example, Yvonne Strahovski (Rene) is set to appear in a new Amazon pilot entitled “Edge.”
