‘Survivor: Cambodia’ preview series: Who should return? (Part 6, women from modern era)
After working on this “Survivor: Cambodia” preview series off and on over the course of the past several weeks, we are pleased to say that with this particular article, we’ve made it to the very end of the road! We’ve gone through many different eras of this game (see the other articles here), and for the most part, what we’ve been able to determine is that there really is still a great pool of people who could come back for a returning-player season in the near future. Sure, newbies are nice, but these are players we don’t want to see forgotten about.
If you look below, you can take a look at five women from the modern era (as in ever since “Survivor: Nicaragua”) who we feel are deserving of one more shot at playing this game. As always, there’s no real criteria: These players just have stories that could be still interesting to watch unfold over time.
Sophie Clarke (South Pacific) – Sophie to us is one of those winners where you really have to go back and watch the season again to really appreciate. We probably vastly underrated her even earlier this year, largely because we hadn’t really done that. She played an extremely good game, and was excellent at keeping allies close, and really allowing other people to dig their own graves. Her social game needed a little work here and there, but with this experience under her belt we really think she could come back and do well. We’d like to see her try.
Kim Spradlin (One World) – Any list without Kim is incomplete. Almost like with Tony, we wonder if she came back if she would be too big of a threat right away, since nobody would underestimate her in the early going for having such a dominant win. Kim, by our estimation, is the best one-time player in the history of the show … which is probably not helping her chances at being under the radar. We want to know if she can do anything even remotely close to what she did the first time.
Sabrina Thompson (One World) – Sure, it’s a little unusual to put two women from the same season on here, but they deserve it. With Sabrina, most of our curiosity is really rooted in that she was such a good social player, she actually made things reasonably competitive against Kim in the final three. She built strong bonds, was extremely intelligent, and probably would get more praise (and would’ve gotten more Second Chance votes) had she not been so overshadowed in the end.
RC Saint-Amour (Philippines) – This one is for the most part fascinating thanks to RC’s big personality, and the fact that she’s had at least one close call already to returning to the game as she and her father were pulled last minute from “Blood vs. Water” after her had some medical issues that rendered it impossible to participate. We do think that RC deserves a chance to play again at some point, mostly because there are not enough aggressive, strategic female players cast on the show these days. We don’t know how she would do, but it would be very fun to watch.
Jenn Brown (Worlds Apart) – We really hope people don’t think she legitimately wanted to quit the game; the edit probably didn’t do her any favors at times when it comes to her explaining her strategy. We saw some real flashes during Jenn’s game the first time that make us think that if she returned, she could be one of these people who makes a huge improvement and could be a serious threat to win. Sure, she’ll have to learn to get along with people she doesn’t care for a little bit better, but she is really good at disarming other players with her seemingly-carefree attitude.
