‘Big Brother 17’ review: The Scamper Squad, Vanessa vs. Johnny Mac, and more

VanessaTonight’s episode of “Big Brother” was a little bit all over the place, and we really don’t think that we learned really anything that we didn’t already know from the live feeds. Still, it was okay to get some further perspective on things.

First of all, the show really got a meal out of Vanessa exaggerating her argument with Johnny Mac. They could have made her look a little bit worse if they wanted, but still she did come across as very paranoid. Still, was it really the best idea for John to be so candid with her? Probably not, but it made for some good entertainment. We do really enjoy them putting something worthwhile in this episode! There wasn’t much to show from the Double Eviction; instead, we got this Steve / James segment that was completely random and really didn’t even fit with the narrative on the feeds.

Since this episode was so full of fluff, let’s just give you a few assorted highlights:

1. The Head of Household Competition was themed around emoji, meaning that someone at CBS has decided to at least try to become more hip. See, network executives can change and try to smarten up a little bit to the latest trends?

2. The “Scamper Squad” was announced tonight as an alliance, even though it has really been around this whole time as Freaks & Geeks. Also, Austin’s Angels, who have totally stolen the thunder from Keith’s Angels back during season 13.

In the end, Becky and John are on the block, and we’ll wait to see what comes next. Episode grade: C+
