‘Chicago Med’ spoilers: ‘Jane the Virgin’ alum joins Torrey DeVitto as new regulars
“Chicago Med” is definitely at this point having no trouble filling out the rest of their cast. Just a mere day after “Pretty Little Liars” and “Army Wives” alum Torrey DeVitto signed on to be a series regular on the NBC show, we now are hearing that Rachel DiPillo (“Jane the Virgin”) is doing the same exact thing.
Early reports here suggest that DiPillo will be playing a fresh-faced emergency room intern named Dr. Reese, who is coming right out of medical school to the hospital … which feels almost like being thrown into the fire given that we are talking about Chicago here. This is a city with many people, and therefore many possibly-dangerous scenarios that the doctors are going to be called on to help solve.
Both of these castings follow the recent exit of Laurie Holden (above) from the series for personal reasons. We don’t think necessarily that either one is completely tied to her decision, if for no other reason than that early indications were that “Chicago Med” was preparing to fill out more of its cast even before she made her decision. Like any other hospital drama, you really do have to cast a wide array of people to make the environment start to feel truly immersive. Otherwise, it is more or less an inauthentic environment.
New episodes of “Chicago Med” are going to start airing in November, following “Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris” going off the air. It was confirmed on Friday that “Chicago Fire” is actually undergoing a slight schedule shift due to that show airing a little earlier in the night.
