‘Heroes: Reborn’: Show creator on struggles of original series

LogoIf you remember back when the first season of “Heroes” premiered on NBC, it was instantly a phenomenon. It was at a time when there were not too many other superhero projects on the air, and almost everyone wanted to see what the show would do with so many unique characters.

What ended up happening at the result was certainly all sorts of an unfortunate situation. The quality dipped dramatically after the first major arc of the season, season 2 was confusing, and season 3 was downright a mess. By the time the show ended its run, there were so few people watching that it was hard to judge its quality. Back during the show’s run it felt clear that the show as trying to do too much, and now, creator Tim Kring seems to agree. While at the TCA Summer Press Tour to promote the new “Heroes: Reborn” series, he told reporters (per TVLine) that what really did in the first version of the show was how many episodes that they had to make in a tiny amount of time:

“The biggest pitfall was always the amount of story that we had to tell … Our [episode] order was for 23 the first year, then 26 in the second year, 25 in the third year. We were facing a mathematical difficulty, an uphill battle.”

Let’s be clear here: Not even “Grey’s Anatomy” makes 26 episodes in a single year. That number is insane. We’re not excusing the show completely since some mistakes were made creatively to go along with the count, but the fact that “Heroes: Reborn” has only 13 episodes is probably a positive step towards its own success. Kring also said that he is doing more episodes beyond this, provided of course that NBC wants them.
