‘Chicago Med’ spoilers: ‘Pretty Little Liars’ alum Torrey DeVitto joins as new regular

NBCDid NBC know about Laurie Holden’s exit from “Chicago Med” for some time before it was announced on Wednesday? The answer to that is hard to judge based on the latest casting.

As first reported by Deadline, former “Pretty Little Liars” and “Army Wives” star Torrey DeVitto is going to be coming aboard here as a new series regular, a pregnant ER doctor may be the name of Dr. Lilly Manning. The report specifically mentions that the show was planning to add some more news people even before Holden made her decision, so for the time being our feeling here is to treat this casting as fairly independent from whatever decision was made there. This is an ensemble show, and thanks to this there is a need for a fairly large cast, similar to what both “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD” are currently doing.

The plan for “Chicago Med” is to get the series completely prepared for a launch in November, which is much earlier than what was originally planned. The series at first was meant to start at midseason, but this was changed when fellow new series “Heartbreaker” was delayed following star Melissa George’s pregnancy.

In case you were wondering, it was also confirmed at TCA that this show will have a variety of crossovers, and the goal here is to give the series as many different relevant cases as possible, and to teach viewers something that they may not have known beforehand.
