‘Supergirl’ spoilers: A host of other new faces

While “Supergirl” is going to be very much interested in telling its own story, it seems to be doing definitely the right thing when it comes to the DC Universe. It is adapting multiple important characters, and really giving you a sense that like “Arrow” and “The Flash,” they are going to give comic-book readers an opportunity to really enjoy this show.

Speaking per Zap2It at the TCA Summer Press tour, executive producer Andre Kreisberg (who also executive-produces the two aforementioned shows) made it very clear that there are many different people coming to the show over the first handful of episodes. Some will be good, and some will be of course bad:

“We’re going to be introducing a bunch of different DC Comics characters over the first nine episodes, some of which have also been announced — we’re having Lucy Lane, but we’re also going to be having her father, Dr. Sam Lane, who will be coming to town with an agenda. We’re also going to have the Red Tornado, which is another DC Comics iconic character, and we’re also going to be introducing Non, a Kryptonian villain who was memorably played in the [Richard] Donner ‘Superman II,’ but we’re going to be having a slightly different take on the character.”

The show version of Non, per Kreisberg will be before he is lobotomized, and will be a different character as a result. He will be smarter and in some ways even more dangerous. Red Tornado, meanwhile, is actually a hero within the world of the Justice League, and this could be a chance for Kara Zor-El to (hopefully) have an ally. In the comics, he has been around for almost half a century, so there could be a lot of ground to cover here if the show ever chose to do so.
