‘The Last Ship’: TNT renews Eric Dane series for season 3!

Chandler -For everyone out there who enjoys “The Last Ship” on TNT, there is some great news coming in to harbor today: The show will have a third season!

TNT confirmed the great news today, which allows us to go into the final episodes of the season with a little bit of solace that there is no more fear of cancellation necessary. The Eric Dane series has not necessarily been the same enormous hit in the ratings this season that it was in the first, but it still performed very well and has a devoted following. Clearly, this is enough to make TNT realize that there is some value in keeping it around for a while longer.

In a way this network has been in a time of transformation over the past year, with Kevin Reilly becoming the new programming head and some changes coming along with that. Luckily, “The Last Ship” is already somewhat in the vein of what he wants to bring to the network: More edgier series that stay away from some of the tropes that the network has relied on in the past (cop shows that follow an established blueprint).

Our assumption here is that the new season will premiere in the summer. There’s no word on the episode count just yet, but our guess is somewhere between 10 and 13 episodes, since this is a show that airs over the course of a few months and doesn’t get split up.
