‘NCIS’ season 13 spoilers: Michael Weatherly’s Tony heads to China
Today, CBS announced full synopsis for many of the season premieres, which is something that is both extremely exciting, and also somewhat surprising given that few other networks chose to do anything different. Then again, this is a well-oiled machine. There is a reason why they have been America’s most-watched network for some time, and it is because they are extremely organized, methodical in their decision-making, and they often do not take many risks because they don’t have to.
Interestingly, “NCIS” may be taking more risks than usual itself for its upcoming 13th season premiere (airing on September 22), judging from its synopsis. It mentions guest stars, but it also mentions that Michael Weatherly’s Agent DiNozzo is going to be spending some time overseas with Joanna Teague:
“After being shot, Gibbs fights for his life aboard a Navy hospital ship, while DiNozzo and Joanna travel to Shanghai to try and take down the Calling. Jon Cryer guest stars as Gibbs’ surgeon, Dr. Cyril Taft. Mimi Rogers returns as CIA Officer Joanna Teague.”
Obviously, we’d be really shocked if Gibbs actually dies this season, given that he is the leading many of the show and it is hard to really envision the team without him. If Mark Harmon were to ever leave the show, we feel like the producers wouldn’t want to kill his character off and would give him a little more of a happier end. He’s been there for so long that Gibbs has earned it.
As for Tony, there were some questions about this judging from some social-media images we’ve seen featuring the character in what seemed to be some sort of Chinese community. We had wondered at the time if he was just taking on a case in a Chinatown; instead, we know that he is actually visiting the country itself.

Gibbs won’t die now or ever. A fan posted a short behind the scene clip of MW and MH Friday, August 7th, filming in her neighborhood and MH was up and walking around as if nothing happened to Gibbs. I see Gibbs’ recovery time being very short.

Haven’t seen the video, need to look for it. Thank you for mentioning it. I think we’ll see his recovery in the first couple of episodes, maybe 2 episodes until the case with the Calling is solved and done. Then everything will be back to normal. Even Weatherly doesn’t believe in Mark going anywhere.
