‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ spoilers: Ryan Murphy on Darren Criss’ role

AHSIt is pretty clear that “American Horror Story” has had a wide range of stories over the course of the past few days. The show had a big panel today at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, and as a result of that there was a good bit of information released about the overall batch of episodes ahead.

To go along with that, one other story that has gone somewhat under-the-radar was the casting of new Emmy nominee Darren Criss for some sort of recurring role! This is the “Glee” star’s first collaboration with Ryan Murphy since the Fox musical comedy came to a close, and based on what Murphy said to Entertainment Weekly, this is a part that seemed to fit him perfectly from the moment that it was written:

“This role for Darren, we wrote it and he was the first person we thought of because Darren has told me he wants to do edgier, darker material, so this plays into that.”

This will be a nice evolution clearly for Criss as an actor, as we start to see more of what his post-“Glee” career shapes up to be. He and Lea Michele are probably the two most notable cast members from that show to continue to work with Murphy in some capacity. In case you missed it, Lea is currently a regular over on “Scream Queens.”

Hopefully, we will learn a little bit more specifically about Darren’s role as we get closer to “Hotel” opening up on Wednesday, October 7. This is going to be a fun season!
