‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: On Callie, Arizona, and new love interests

We know that for many longtime fans of Callie and Arizona on “Grey’s Anatomy,” there is still a hope that maybe someday the two can work things out and be back together again romantically. Let us make it clear that we share many of those same hopes with you!

However, at the same time we have to be very cognizant of the fact that this is life, and sometimes romance does not work out in the way in which you want. Shonda Rhimes is very much a realist sometimes, and if there ever does come a time for Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw’s characters to be back together, they will have to truly earn it after everything that they have went through with each other. You really cannot just flick on a switch here and have everything be more or less as it once was.

For the time being, Shonda Rhimes has made it clear that these two will have no loves interests in the early going. For more, just check out her new comments via Entertainment Weekly:

“Arizona obviously does not date men, and Callie’s love interest so far this season is a woman … I like that we’re honoring the fact that her character is bisexual. I feel like her energy right now feels like that’s what she’s looking for.”

We haven’t heard too much just yet in regards to the casting for these characters, but this is something that we imagine there will be more and more discussed about over the course of the next several weeks. “Grey’s Anatomy” is hard at work now on new episodes, and in some ways one of the stories we expect to see is how Meredith Grey can move forward and find happiness again after losing her husband Derek.
