‘Louie’ season 6 to be on extended hiatus; Louis CK working with Pamela Adlon on new series
One of the great things about Louis CK’s relationship with FX at the moment is that he has managed over time to forge a relationship that is very similar with the network to what Larry David has over with HBO. He is able more or less to make shows whenever he wants to make shows, and is then allowed to go off and do a variety of other things.
Today, FX Networks head John Landgraf confirmed that season 6 of “Louie,” while it will happen, is not going to be rushed to the air. CK wants to go off and work on some other projects for a while, which includes a movie and also executive-producing some other comedies for the network. One of them will feature Zach Galifianakis in “Baskets,” and the other in “Better Things” stars Pamela Adlon, who of course appeared on “Louie” for over a dozen episodes as Pamela.
Landgraf said that he hopes “Louie” is on the air for a good 20 years, and we of course doubt that will happen tremendously. Eventually CK will probably decide that he is done and wants to more or less move on to a variety of other things. This is a guy who is going to have a tremendous amount of other projects and ideas, and we feel like the best thing FX can probably hope for is a few more years.
While the ratings for “Louie” are not huge, it does perform will in digital venues and also earns a lot of awards recognition. This sort of attention to quality is more than likely one of the reasons why this series continues to have such a long shelf life and is popular with executives.
