‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ finale: Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver return!
Tonight marks the end of the road for “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” and of course the irony here is that it is happening right around the time that Twitter is obsessing over the GOP debate. Stewart has had so much mocking these debates over the years, but now feels like it’s time after a decade and a half to close the door on the show and do some other things.
The opening to the show tonight was more or less everything that we would want and then some. There were cameos aplenty, especially when it comes to almost every notable person who has worked on his show. It was probably the most amazing supercut that we’ve ever seen. You had everyone from John Oliver to Stephen Colbert, Samantha Bee, Jason Jones, Steve Carell, Olivia Munn, Larry Wilmore, Lewis Black, Rob and Nate Corddry, Michael Che, new host Trevor Noah, politicians like Hillary Clinton and John McCain, Bill O’Reilly, and even Wyatt Cenac (whose recent comments on a podcast were blown way out of proportion) stopped by.
Suffice it to say, this was hilarious. Colbert really took hold of the latter portion of the show, and chose to thank him in a really lovely way. Colbert completely killed it with his entire “thank you” monologue, and seemed to get Stewart teary-eyed and laughing hysterically at the same time. Yes, we did tear up in this.
From here, the next order of business for the show was moving into what was the next phase, which was a behind-the-scenes tour of everyone Stewart works with on the show. It was random, nostalgic, and fairly fun. We didn’t know hardly any of these people, so obviously it had a different feel to the first part.
As a whole, this was a moving, funny, and powerful end to the show. To think that this show was such a part of our lives for so many years … and now it’s gone. It will be weird moving on next week without it.
