‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 13 review: A popular contestant exits the kitchen

MasterChefMasterChef” is currently right smack in the middle of a pretty intense season, but while we really did love the food that we saw showcased over the course of the hour, we do have to say in the end that this was a pretty predictable hour of TV.

Tonight, we finally said farewell to Shelly, a woman who fought hard to stay alive pretty much all season and got a pretty inspirational effort for the most part. Ultimately, her biggest weakness was probably just that she put too much pressure on herself, and may be a little too raw when it comes to her culinary skill. The said thing tonight is that she went home over chicken and waffles, something she considered to be right in her wheelhouse.

After Shelli undercooked her chicken, it was pretty clear that this was it for her. Katrina was in the bottom, but was probably not in any real danger. Meanwhile, Hetal (who ironically is vegetarian) and Tommy shined during the chicken / waffles challenge.

Also, we should give a little bit of shoutout tonight to Stephen, who really killed it in the first challenge on the night and managed to earn himself safety for the week. To us, this cemented that he, Claudia, and Derrick are probably the three titans in this competition right now. There has only been one male winner in the past five seasons of the show, but unless Claudia takes it or someone else rises to the occasion, we could have another this week after a fun episode. Episode Grade: B.
