‘The View’ officially loses Nicole Wallace as she declines contributor role
The world of ABC is in some ways so bizarre. While the majority of its news division and its daytime lineup seems to be very stable, its roster on “The View” feels almost like something that would be better suited for all of the constant drama over on NBC. We’ve seen so many departures and hires over the past several weeks that it is hard to keep track.
We already knew that the show was not going to have Nicole Wallace as a prominent panelist next season, with one of the awkward reasons for it being that apparently she was not the best at some of the lighter pop-culture segments. We’re personally fine with this, but then again we’re not the show’s average demographic.
Today, we have learned via a memo that Wallace is also going to be exiting completely, and will not be taking a contributor role that was offered to her. Instead, she will be continuing work over on MSNBC, where Deadline reports she recently signed a new deal.
The show suffered some ratings losses with its most-recent panel, and with that we’re not surprised that we are seeing somewhat of a revolving-door effect. With that being said, we wonder whether or not there is any combination of people that could be brought in who could turn this around. This is the era of Netflix, of multiple competitors, and of a variety of different ways in which to watch the news. To demand to check out something like “The View” is not what it once was.
With that said, the show is trying next month with a panel of Whoopi Goldberg, Michelle Collins, Paula Faris, Candice Cameron Bure, and Raven-Symone. We’ll see what happens.
