‘True Detective’ season quotes skewered brilliantly in Seth Meyers clip

We have admittedly been more positive than most when it comes to the second season of “True Detective,” if for no other reason than that we feel like the show does have some merits, and the actors are at least trying to do what they can with the material given to them.

Even if you are a defender of the show, we still feel like it’s in your best interest to laugh at the video below from “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” It’s just a perfect depiction of almost everything that is strange and depressing about the HBO show’s second season. The focus here is on contestants guessing whether or not certain quotes were from the show, or from a fortune cookie. Some of these are legitimately press hard to guess!

As if this was not weird enough for you, Seth’s game also includes really depressing singing, whiskey that you are supposed to drink while thinking about the saddest moment of your life, and a terrible assembling of prizes at the end. There’s also someone wandering around with a bird head.

We do wonder whether or not there is a way for “True Detective” to get back in the good graces of America … but it’s going to be difficult. After this season it could be hard to sell a third season to big-name celebrities, even if it is really good, out of fear they will be mocked. We feel like the show needs to simplify, cut down on the number of cast members, and maybe allow there to be at least a tiny shred of lightness here and there.
