‘American Crime’ season 2 spoilers: Andre Benjamin snags important role
It may have been a little bit of time since some of you out there heard the name of Andre Benjamin, but the Outkast performer otherwise known as Andre 3008 has landed himself an important role on a new TV project: “American Crime.”
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Benjamin is joining the show’s second season in the role of Michael Lacroix, an architect and a wealthy member of the midwestern town in which he resides alongside his wife Teri (played by returning cast member Regina King). These two see their world rocked somewhat when a scandal breaks out involving their son at private school. This environment is said to be one of the key things that season 2 exploring, along with cultural and sexual identity.
Benjamin has worked with “American Crime” creator John Ridley before on the Jimi Hendrix biopic “All is by My Side,” and this is something that the showrunner alludes to in a statement:
“Personally, I couldn’t be more excited than to work again with Andre … He is an amazing individual, a true artist, and All is by my Side is one of the reasons I was given the reins on American Crime. Folks at ABC were absolutely moved by Andre’s performance in the film, and by the overall language of cinema we used in telling the story. It’s fair to say American Crime might not exist were it not for our previous collaboration.”
The second season of “American Crime” will premiere on ABC come early next year, and given the amount of Emmy love the first season received, it is pretty clear to us why just about anyone would want to join this show.
