‘The Astronaut Wives Club’ episode 7 reaction: Betty Grissom prepares for the worst

Astronaut -Tonight’s new episode of “The Astronaut Wives Club” was in some ways about dealing with death, but little did some of the women in this world realize that what they were doing was preparing them for more bad news at the end of the episode.

We don’t think the death of Gus Grissom comes as much of a surprise to anyone who studies history, but the show did a good job of preparing for it by touching on some of the protocol in which some of the women (in this case Betty) are told what is going home, and that includes getting more periodic updates on what their husbands are up to.

As a whole, this episode does once again expose some of the sexism that these women still deal with, as many of their demands fall on largely deaf ears; yet, at the same time, we do feel like some of them are starting to find their voice. This will become more important over time.

Do we know what the future holds for this show in terms of moving beyond this season? No, but we think that this is going to be a pretty interesting few episodes moving forward to see just how much of the space program the show is going to explore this summer. Stay tuned, as we hope to have even more news on what to expect moving into the future. We anticipate at least a few more developments and sad moments along the way. Space is a risky thing.
