‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 3, episode 8 review: Did Vincent, Catherine actually get married?
Weddings are meant to be a happy occasion, but at this point you really should know that on “Beauty and the Beast,” nothing ever comes easy. This proved to be very true on Thursday night’s “Shotgun Wedding,” which is probably very compelling to some and disappointing to others.
Let’s start here with the big news of the night: Vincent and Catherine are not actually married. Their plan to have a quick wedding in the midst of chaos was completely interrupted by a certain someone in Liam with an agenda of his own: To stop the chase. He murdered Juliana (who our characters were holding hostage, literally inside the church), and gave Vincent the biggest warning shot ever right after the entire ceremony was derailed. Now, he’s gone … and so are Catherine’s ambitions to continue down this road.
The role-reversal at the end of the episode was definitely intriguing. After spending most of the season as the guy not interested in chasing down bad guys, Vincent now wants to stop the cycle and eliminate Liam. Meanwhile, Catherine is done. She feels like it’s a waste of time and her life to try to and stop someone who she thinks is not really coming after her. We wonder how long this philosophy will hold if something else happens.
The only way we’d be truly disappointed about this wedding not happening is if it does not happen at all during season 3, mostly because it feels to us like the timing just was not right here. These characters will have another opportunity without all of the chaos.
For now, we are happy that they are alive, and we’re also glad that Heather (who had probably her biggest role of the season tonight) seems to have helped JT and Tess get on the same page again. If only the same thing were true for Tess and her employers at the police department.
“Shotgun Wedding” was sad, but it was also pretty powerful and it shows us that there is still hope for Catherine and Vincent as future husband and wife. Sometimes, patience really is a virtue. Grade: B+.
