‘Wayward Pines’ continues to tempt Fox with season 2 thanks to DVR numbers
The reason that there is any discussion at all about a second season of “Wayward Pines” really has nothing to do with the show’s live ratings; it is the show’s continued ability to dominate in the DVR ratings that may have Fox at least thinking about the possibility.
Some of the latest numbers are in for the July 16 episode of the show (via TVbythenumbers), and they show that the series went from getting a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic to a 2.0 after three days of viewing. This sort of gain is enormous, and this is just the live+3 data. The live+7 data for the show is even more astounding, as some late stragglers come to the table and try to play a little bit of catch-up. No other show on broadcast TV is routinely getting these sort of increases, especially ones that at least have okay numbers in the live viewership.
We feel like if the show was not so time-shifted and was getting close to these numbers live, Fox would probably be begging the producers for more episodes even with this being intended as simply an event series. On the other hand, if the DVR numbers were simply mediocre there would probably be no buzz at all. It is these numbers that create at least a little bit of ambiguity, since they provide an incentive to make Fox think about it. Remember that this is a network far from batting a thousand this summer. “So You Think You Can Dance” is routinely a weaker show now, and “MasterChef,” while okay for summer, is down versus past years.
We should continue to point out that as of yesterday, there was apparently no contact between the network and stars of “Wayward Pines” about a second season. Maybe they will leave well enough alone, but time will tell.

I would love to have a Season 2. Sort of shocked that this is the end.
