‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 7 official; Angie Harmon – Sasha Alexander series renewed for 13 episodes

There’s some good news and then some surprising news coming out today when it comes to TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles.” Where do we start?

Well, let’s go ahead and kick things off with the good: The crime series starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander has been renewed for a seventh season! This new batch of episodes will air most likely in the summer of 2016, and feature a variety of different cases that we presume will mix interesting mysteries, drama, and comedy to the delight of most of its viewers. This is the most-watched cable show of the summer, and one of the most-popular cable shows of the entire year in the same measure. It may not have the buzz of a “Game of Thrones” or “Walking Dead,” but it is consistent and its fans are fiercely loyal.

Here is where things start to get a little bit surprising: The episode order for season 7 is only 13 installments. Given that season 6 has 18 episodes, it is unusual for a popular show to drop to that number in the span of the year. This is of course fueling some new speculation that season 7 could be the show’s last, but there are also some other possibilities here, including that maybe the cast simply wants to have some more time to explore other ventures.

Regardless of when it ends, “Rizzoli & Isles” has had a great run, and this guarantees that it will not be over anytime soon. There are still many episodes airing this summer, including a midseason finale that may have a big cliffhanger included.
