Ratings: ‘Last Comic Standing’ has solid premiere, tops ‘MasterChef’; ‘Big Brother’ wins
At the time NBC first revived “Last Comic Standing,” we honestly were not sure how it would do. This was perennially a bubble show back when it was on the air in the first place, let alone now so many years later.
However, people do love to laugh, so we are not that surprised to see the series pulling some respectable numbers for its season 9 premiere last night. Overall, the show generated a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is down from the 1.7 the season 8 premiere drew last year. However, here’s something very interesting per TVbythenumbers: This is the highest-rated episode of the series since the season finale in 2007. Anytime you can do something that hasn’t been done in eight years, that is very impressive and worth taking a look at. This also marked as the second-best program of the night, with it even beating a new episode of “MasterChef” (1.4).
Elsewhere across the TV landscape last night, let us stop for a minute to give some kudos to “Big Brother 17” (1.8) for continuing to be fairly steady this season. Its ratings are starting to slowly decline, but this show does still have one of the most devoted followings of any reality show out there.
Just in case there are any folks out there that are curious, we do plan on covering “Last Comic Standing” a little more extensively throughout the rest of the summer with reviews, so if you are liking the season so far, then keep an eye out for more news on the show here at CarterMatt as we get a little bit closer to over the weekend.
