‘Last Comic Standing’ season 9: Watch a sneak peek before premiere!
Did you realize that the season premiere of “Last Comic Standing” is airing on NBC Wednesday night? Maybe we have been looking in all the wrong places or something, but it feels to us almost like there has been very little promotion for this new season of the show.
That’s a shame, mostly because there are a few new elements of it that we are excited to see. For one, we have the hiring of Anthony Jeselnik as host. JB Smoove never felt completely comfortable, and we think that part of that may be that some of his best material is more story-based and doesn’t come out as much through a hosting gig. Jeselnik, meanwhile, is a master of one-liners and has done multiple Comedy Central roasts. This will be a cleaner gig for him, but we imagine that he will do a good job in the role.
Speaking of which, we’re also thrilled to see Norm MacDonald back on NBC again. One of our favorite former “Saturday Night Live” cast members, Norm has such a dry sense of humor that it serves as a nice contrast to Roseanne and Keenen Ivory Wayans, whose comedy is a little bit more of the big-and-bold variety. We like Russell Peters, but he was always an interesting choice for this show because he was more popular for the most part outside of the United States.
You can see some of the first comics in the sneak peek below, and there are some good jokes in here about everything from dating to a woman getting hit with a dump truck. We don’t like to single them out for the most part, mostly because they don’t often shine out of context or without the comic’s voice being a part of it.
We hope to have some other coverage all season! For now, head over here if you want to get some more TV news on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
