Teen Choice Awards 2015: Stephen Amell, Emily Bett Rickards, Paul Wesley, Candice Accola, and ‘liplock’ prize
We have vowed already to go through every category of the 2015 Teen Choice Awards (well, at least the relevant ones for a TV site) with some analysis. However, there is none that is anywhere near as awkward as trying to piece together now some of the nominees for Choice TV: Liplock. Why is there a category for this? Why not just make it Choice TV: Romantic Chemistry or something? The name makes it sound like we’re analyzing people based on their kissing skills and that’s just weird. Really, it’s about acting ability and making you believe in these characters.
We’re going to talk about this award more in context of which actors have the best on-screen chemistry, and also which characters we enjoy watching the most when they are together. It’s really the only way we’re going to make it through this with our sanity intact.
The nominees
Candice Accola and Paul Wesley, “The Vampire Diaries”
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, “The Vampire Diaries”
Jennifer Morrison and Colin O’Donoghue, “Once Upon a Time”
Candice Patton and Grant Gustin, “The Flash”
Emily Bett Rickards and Stephen Amell, “Arrow”
Gina Rodriguez and Justin Baldoni, “Jane the Virgin”
Who will win – This is a clash of the titans so far as ‘shipping goes! We really could see almost all of them win, though “Jane the Virgin” has a disadvantage here since the show has not been on as long. In past years we’d give it to Nina and Ian in a heartbeat, but we feel like Candice and Paul may help to split the vote among the “Vampire Diaries” fandom. Captain Swan ‘shippers (fitting, given we’re talking about a pirate) are a passionate bunch, and we’re thinking that the race will be close to call between them and Emily / Stephen for “Arrow.”
Who should win – It’s tough yet again, but we feel like this is the height of the Olicity fandom at the moment after Emily and Stephen won the MTV Fandom Award. Plus, Oliver and Felicity finally got together at the end of season 3. This seems to be a great way to continue to keep interest high going into season 4.
