‘Hannibal’ season 3, episode 7 ratings … impress? Well, sort of

Hannibal -Here is something that we definitely did not see coming in the ratings for Saturday night: “Hannibal” kept the entirety of its audience in the 18-49 demographic! It may be crazy, but that is precisely the truth here.

For one of its best episodes to date in “Digestivo” (read our full review here), the series drew a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Yes, that is a pretty terrible number for network TV no matter how you slice it, but to us getting that rating on a Saturday is at least marginally more impressive than getting it on a Thursday night. Also, remember here that “Aquarius,” which is technically renewed for a second season, only drew a 0.3 rating. We’re still very confused about what NBC is going to do with that show. Maybe they can rescind the renewal, but it’s going to cost them some extra cash. Or, who knows? Maybe they have made enough money off of streams that they really are not too bothered with what the ratings are for the show on the night it airs.

The important thing for “Hannibal” is that we’ve basically established what is the floor of the season, and this means that if there is another potential suitor for it out there, they know that it can withstand a move to the worst night of the week for TV and still get the same rating it did on Thursday.

We do still think the show has many obstacles to overcome before a season 4 can happen, including finding a suitor who is going to be happy with Bryan Fuller doing “American Gods” next, and waiting a while for the next new episodes.

We’ll have more updates on the show throughout the week, so stay tuned! Also, you can sign up here to get some other TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
