‘Jane the Virgin’ star Gina Rodriguez handles Emmy snub perfectly
Earlier today, the Primetime Emmy Awards announced their list of nominees, and we’d say for the most part they did a better job than in previous years. While we are bummed about the lack of love for shows like “Outlander” and “Sons of Anarchy,” we understood that both of them were entering the awards season as underdogs. The Emmys did nominate a wide array of first-time nominees and even relatively-new series, which is something that they have not had a tendency to do over time.
However, there is one show and one actress that shocked us by not getting a nod: “Jane the Virgin.” Gina Rodriguez was considered an awards-show darling all year, and yet somehow the Television Academy chose to ignore her. It has to be a bummer when many thought she was going to be a lock, but you have to admire the way that she is handling it. The show’s narrator Anthony Mendez did receive a nomination Thursday, and rather than being upset over her own snub, she sent some of the love his way.
It would be nice to see someone from “Jane the Virgin” score a nod, mostly because of its quality and because The CW deserves a chance of its own to shine at some point. They’ve been producing something for a while that they should be proud of, but the Emmys have been fairly fickle on all things CW for a while.
If there is some other good news for the network today, it is that the special effects crew also was able to pick up a nod of their own.
