‘The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All’ will do segment on internet reaction to Kaitlyn Bristowe

Kaitlyn -If you ask just about anyone, they will tell you that this has been one of the more controversial seasons of “The Bachelorette” over the course of the series’ history. After all, just think for a minute about everything we’ve seen, from men melting down on Kaitlyn Bristowe to some of the guys getting in huge arguments with each other.

However, the biggest story of the entire season revolved around some of the internet reaction to Kaitlyn sleeping with Nick Viall, and the venom that followed on the internet. Suffice it to say, we’ve rarely ever seen so much nastiness just from two people sleeping together. Anyway, the “Men Tell All Special” Monday is going to do a whole segment talking about some of the internet hate Kaitlyn has endured; just take a look at the synopsis below:

“In one the most dramatic moments of the night, Chris Harrison explores the cyber bullying Kaitlyn had to endure during the season, as she was sent a deluge of hateful, threatening messages simply because people didn’t agree with her personal choices. An emotional Bachelorette describes the impact all this negativity has had on her and her family.”

One thing that we hope that the show really doesn’t do is read verbatim the comments people have left online. That tells anonymous trolls that there is incentive to what they say in that they can get on TV, and to many of them any publicity is good publicity. That’s why exploring so much of cyber bullying is a catch 22. You are exposing a problem that is out there, but in exposing it you run the risk that you give the bullies more fuel for their fire.

The thing that we wish the show would do Monday is at least own up to some of their own role in all of this. While they of course did not endorse anyone saying terrible things about Kaitlyn online, they presented the hookup scene with Nick in the most obnoxious, negative way possible, complete with sex noises and a camera guy standing right outside of her hotel room. Had the scene ended with these two going into a hotel room together, would the reaction be as negative? We’re not as sure.
