‘Stitchers’ season 2 official; mystery series officially renewed
ABC Family clearly has wasted no time making sure that they lock in “Stitchers” for the long term. While the mystery series (technically the first procedural drama the network has done) is not done with its first season just yet, it has been officially renewed for a second season. This is confirmed in a statement by the network, whose executive vice president of programming and development Karey Burke had the following to say:
“Fans are enjoying the camaraderie of the Stitchers team and a lead character that is unapologetically smart, focused and a great role model to young women … We look forward to seeing more of the Stitchers team tackling diverse cases as they unravel the mystery behind the program’s creation.”
Why was this series so important to the network, to the point where they decided to give it “Pretty Little Liars” as a lead-in? One of the major reasons for that is simply the fact that it is an attempt by the show to reach out to a little bit of a different audience. The network has tried to skew more towards young adults to teens lately, which makes some sense as their fan following for shows like “PLL” start to get a little bit older.
One other great thing about the renewal at this time is that it may help to orchestrate a change in thinking among many fans, who have associated ABC Family with canceling beloved shows in the past like “Make It or Break It” and “Bunheads.” Neither one of these series ultimately got the ending that they deserves and were gone far too soon.
