‘Game of Thrones’ season 6: George R.R. Martin reflects on missing San Diego Comic-Con

Take a look -Game of Thrones” season 6 held its annual Comic-Con panel in San Diego over the weekend, but there was one thing that was rather different about it this time around: Not getting to have the brilliant George R.R. Martin as moderator. What went wrong here? Nothing. The author just decided to take time away from the convention this year to focus on The Winds of Winter, the next book in the series that season 6 of the show is for the most part based on.

Martin reflected on his absence this week in his Not a Blog page, and seemed to be for the most part fine with it based on everything else he has going on at the moment:

“Staying home was the right decision … I have so much work to do, I am way behind on everything, and I have a wedding to attend in Jersey in a few weeks, and worldcon after that… and if truth be told, San Diego has gotten overwhelming in recent years. There are always good times catching up with friends, and hanging with the cast, but it’s not as if I can walk the floor anymore and look for old comic books, the way I once did.”

We do know that Martin feels the way ultimately that quite a few others do regarding the convention. While this is something that many people would really want to be a part of, at the same exact time it has changed considerably from the old days. It is immensely crowded, everyone is completely star-crazy, and it can be difficult to even find everything you want to do sometimes. Even smaller conventions can be overwhelming.

This has been still a huge week for the show even with Martin being relatively low-key. After all, it was just announced that Bran Stark is coming back next season! Read more over here, and sign up today to get some additional TV news on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: HBO.)
