‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 10 preview: Sugar and spice and everything rice

MasterChef -Who doesn’t love rice? We know very few people would protest the idea of having some of it. It’s one of the most popular and familiar flavors out there, and it just so happens to also be the focus of the latest Mystery Box Challenge that we have on Wednesday night’s new episode of “MasterChef.”

We love the fake-out that Gordon Ramsay does in here on Katrina, making her think that there is some sort of crazy-wild animal in the box when he tells her to not put her chin on it. Then, when the boxes are lifted, it is rice that ultimately comes out and the home cooks have a heck of a challenge ahead of them trying to make something tasty in a short period of time. Hetal is understandably confident; she eats rice almost every day, and culturally it plays a big role in much of her cuisine.

As for some other contenders, it’ll be interesting to see what they do. One of the challenges with Rice for the most part is knowing the right way to cook it so that it doesn’t go over and become just dry and sticky. It’s all about patience and timing and making sure you use the right grain to compliment your dish. Even with a rice cooker it’s sometimes easy to mess it up, and we don’t think the cooks are getting the luxury of this.

Like with many other Mystery Box challenges, we’re assuming here that the winner is going to get at least some sort of advantage in an upcoming challenge. We’ll just have to wait and see what this said advantage is.
