‘Hannibal’ season 3, ‘Aquarius’ moving to Saturday nights

Hannibal -Just in case “Hannibal” did not have enough miserable news, we now present the following: The NBC series is now making a new standing appointment on Saturday nights. This news was confirmed by Joe Flint of the Wall Street Journal on Twitter, with the explanation here being for the most part that the network affiliates were so unhappy with the numbers (they serve as bad lead-ins to local broadcasts and such) that they did not have much of a choice.

Yes, this is a larger nail in the coffin for a show in “Hannibal” that is already canceled, mostly because it is not going to draw big ratings in this timeslot. It will be lucky to draw a 0.2 or 0.3 in the 18-49 demographic. How do you sell that to other potential buyers? It’s not going to be easy, and that is very depressing news seemingly for anyone who is a fan of that show.

As if all of this was not bad enough, we also have to question what is going on here with “Aquarius.” This show was already renewed for a second season, so what are you going to do with it? It seems like the NBC.com views were the real reason behind this, so maybe it continues in this format while new episodes air on Saturdays next season. It would be rare of the network to rescind a renewal, but this is NBC. Nobody knows dysfunction quite like them.

This move will seemingly be immediate, so you better prepare to set your DVRs accordingly while we go off to a corner somewhere and pout. Why couldn’t affiliates let us have nice things?

Now, our request is simple: Watch “Hannibal” on Saturday nights! It’s the only way for it to have a future. Stay tuned for more news, and head over here to get some other TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
