‘Poldark’ episode 5 preview (PBS): New highs, lows, for Aidan Turner, cast

Tonight’s episode of “Poldark” definitely had its fair share of happy moments, but as you really should be aware at this given moment in time, not everything that starts off pleasant is destined to stay that way.

We will save some of our more specific teases until the episode next week is closer to airing, but for now let us tell you this: There is big movement forward yet again in Ross’ personal life. Consider this an extension of the news that Demelza is pregnant, and that is all we will say on this particular subject for now.

On the work side of things, next week is going to be a big episode for trying to rally many of the mine workers together, as some new threats come and try to ruin the business on all fronts. One of them will make a direct assault on Francis, who as we’ve learned is highly susceptible to making more decisions more often than not. There could be some sad notes by the time we make it to the end of the episode, and Verity will also have a role in this.

So why is “Poldark” remaining such an under-the-radar series in America at the moment? We feel like part of it is that the only people who may be fully aware of what it is are fans of the original series. The name is also a big tricky. It is pretty easy to identify the likes of a “Downton Abbey” or “Call the Midwife,” but few will know superficially what a “Poldark” is.

Where do you think the story should go moving into the next installment? Let us know in the comments.
