‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder on story’s goals
While the best is still more or less to come when it comes to “The Vampire Diaries” at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, how about a story tease in advance courtesy of one of the show’s main stars? With Nina Dobrev gone Ian Somerhalder certainly knows that the focus is even more on him, and this is something that could create some interesting new story dynamics. You get a chance to explore more of who Damon is now without Elena … and just how troubled he may be now that this anchor is gone.
The future for Damon is something that Ian was keen to tease in a new interview with TheWrap, and he made it clear that for the most part, you are much likelier to see a season 1 Damon than the guy who tried a little harder to be good in recent years:
“This is an evolution of the story. This is Mystic Falls without Elena Gilbert,” the actor said about the upcoming season. “The relationships and dynamics are going to be so cool. Our goal – not even our goal, what we will do – as actors and producers and writers and executives, we will make sure that we pay tribute to the type of storytelling in Season 1 and Season 2, that really galvinized and solidified this fanbase, which really allowed people to fall in love with this show. We want to go back to the storytelling that’s dark and sexy and fun and volatile, and that’s what we’re doing. Damon’s going to be on a great journey.”
Ian also claims that he has shot something for the upcoming presentation, and that will hopefully merit plenty of great discussion in its own right. We will have some further news on that subject a little later on this weekend.
