‘Person of Interest’ season 5 spoilers: Further episode count confirmation; not final season (as of yet)
It is fair to say that the “Person of Interest” Comic-Con presence this year is at least a little bit different than some of the ones that have come before it. After all, there is a significant amount of uncertainty this time around over the show’s future. It will not be airing until midseason, and given CBS’ tendency to support their own studio shows before ones produced externally (this is a Warner Bros. show), it may be a little easier to kick this one to the curb.
For the time being, though, know this: They have not been told that this is the final season, per tweets from @MarytheGeek from the show’s press room. Executioner producer Jonathan Nolan and the rest of the team made that much clear today, along with the fact that it will officially run for 13 episodes. That is somewhat of a bummer, but at the same time it may offer them the chance to tell some interesting stories that can carry over from one to the next.
Given that the show does not know whether or not the end is near, we’d be willing to wager that we will get some sort of update on Shaw before we get to the end of the road here. Sarah Shahi has long indicated that she wants to return, and the show wants to have her back when she is ready after a maternity leave.
There’s no firm release date just yet on the new season; we anticipate it being back on the air come most likely March at the latest. It could be earlier a la January, but it may depend on how the fall series fare.
