David Letterman surprises fans at Steve Martin – Martin Short show to mock Donald Trump

Letterman -It has been almost two months now since David Letterman officially retired from “The Late Show,” so can you really be that surprised that he may have started to get a little bit bored during that time? You really shouldn’t be. He’s gone from working crazy hours to almost no hours.

Therefore, you cannot be too shocked that the legendary comic joked that he was “happy to get out of the house” when making a surprise appearance this weekend at a San Antonio show featuring his longtime friends Martin Short and Steve Martin. He came out to thunderous applause, and went on to tell a story of how happy he was to retire when he did and why he was so thrilled with everything that he had done. Then, he brought up Donald Trump … and admitted that he made the “biggest mistake of [his] life” to huge laughter that he wasn’t around to mock him. This is a similar joke to what we’ve heard from late-night hosts still working on TV, though there is something about Dave’s delivery that still remains magic.

From here, Letterman read off a famous Top 10 List, joking that every suit he owns comes with one. This one was “little-known facts” about Trump, and of course it contained many jokes about the “thing on his head” (a common joke Dave told about Trump for years) and also his stance on Mexico and immigration.

Clearly, Dave has not lost a step, and he even catered to the local crowd (which is not something that he had to do nearly as much in New York, where people were coming to him).
