‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 3, episode 5 review: Did Cat and Vincent stop Bob and Carol?
On tonight’s new episode of “Beauty and the Beast,” we learned time and time again that Vincent and Catherine are better together. Seriously. We heard this around a billion or so times. “The Most Dangerous Beast” is an episode that started off with some promise, but eventually was mired with predictability and it never really evolved or changed from what we had last week in “Heart of the Matter.”
The basic premise here is that to prove that they were not codependent, Cat and Vincent each took on separate missions. Cat dragged her new partner on a case, only to discover that Carol was waiting for them. Meanwhile, Vincent’s trip of north left him alone and exposed at the hands of Bob. From here, we had a combination of epic fight scenes and then also sentimental discussion about how important partners out of each other. Seeing Carol’s heart stop after learning that Bob was dead was almost something straight out of “Romeo & Juliet.”
For the most part, we felt like Bob and Carol could be interesting villains, but we never could really reconcile their actions with how they would also at times try to be some sort of sage beacons of advice for Cat and Vincent. It was strange.
There were still some shining moments despite this being probably our least-favorite episode of the season. JT throwing himself in front of a truck to distract Bob and save Vincent was a nice touch of heroism from him, and we did like how the ending left things very open-ended. Cat and Vincent feel suddenly like they are a little more safe, thinking that Bob and Carol were not able to alert anyone before their deaths as to Vincent being a beast. However, you know that is not going to be long-lasting. The writers have at least not worked themselves into a corner here, and there are many different ways in which they could go. Grade: C+.
