Teen Choice Awards 2015: Chris Wood, Tom Cavanagh, Matt Nable compete for Best Villain
Earlier this week, the Teen Choice Awards officially unveiled their second wave of nominations leading up to the August 16 awards show. Basically, it’s an opportunity to recognize even more people / recruit more stars to the August 16 ceremony. We used to joke about have show having more categories than there were actual nominees, but at this point we really appreciate it. It gives people worthy of recognition a chance to shine where they often do not other get. This is especially true for genre shows, since many of them are snubbed by at-times snotty critics who want to judge based on their own definition of art.
We’ll be spotlighting a new category every day until we get to the end of the road. Today, that means taking on the list for Choice TV Villain. This one is especially weird, sine there are actors and characters nominated at the same time.
The nominees
“A,” “Pretty Little Liars”
Tom Cavanagh, “The Flash”
The Dread Doctors, “Teen Wolf”
Terence Howard, “Empire”
Matt Nable, “Arrow”
Chris Wood, “The Vampire Diaries”
Who will win – We’re going with Chris Wood because we know that “Vampire Diaries” fans around the world turn out in droves to vote for this show, and he has a lot going for him when you look at this pool of nominees. As popular as “Pretty Little Liars” and “Teen Wolf” are, you cannot really get behind a character so much without knowing who is playing them. That’s why we don’t really think that they should even be nominated.
Who should win – Cavanagh. We’ve already said that we feel like his performance as Harrison Wells / Eobard Thawne is worthy of an Emmy nomination. He’s that sort of villain where you really don’t want him to be a villain, because he has such a natural warmth and you want to believe him. His manipulation skills are so adept that he is even more compelling than just your average bad guy out to destroy the world.
