‘Homeland’ season 5 spoilers: Mark Ivanir set for major role
At this given point in the series’ run, it really should not come as too great of a shock that Showtime is keeping most matters related to “Homeland” shrouded in mystery. This is a show that is shifting a setting to Germany, and with that comes a variety of new cast members. This is made all the more confusing thanks to the fact that Carrie (Claire Danes) is apparently leaving the CIA, so the series has to figure out some other interesting ways to implement her character.
For the time being, though, this latest casting news has a little more to do with Saul than anything specifically revolving around Carrie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mark Ivanir is going to play Ivan Krupin in a major recurring role on the series. He will be a Russian intelligence agent, and largely the country’s version of Mandy Patinkin’s character.
The premiere of “Homeland” is set to air in October, and we imagine that there may be a variety of other castings announced before that time. Patinkin and Danes should both be featured in a way array of episodes, while the status of many of their other co-stars is, at least for the time period, somewhat unclear. One of the big challenges for Carrie is going to be trying to get over the feelings of betrayal that she had at the end of the first season.
Stay tuned, as we will have even more news related to the series soon!
