Kel Mitchell returns to Nickelodeon years after ‘Kenan & Kel’ with ‘Game Shakers’

Kel -We really should not even have to tell you how excited this news makes us. We’ve said for years that “Kenan & Kel” was one of the favorite shows of our childhood, and Kel Mitchell in particular was a guy we could watch do just about anything. He remains somewhat of a personal idol near the top of the interview wishlist.

Therefore, we’re pretty darn pleased to report that Mitchell is now going to be returning to the network that started it all for him in Nickelodeon for “Game Shakers,” an upcoming comedy that allows him to work once again with Dan Schneider, who worked on both “All That” and “Kenan & Kel” years ago. The show revolves around two 7th-grade girls who find a way to become tech moguls at an early age; they created a music app, and following that success a game company called Game Shakers. Mitchell’s rapper character Double G ends up becoming involved in their latest business after at first threatening to sue them for using one of his tracks without permission.

Mitchell describes the role to Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the news:

“I get to play a hip-hop mogul who is the comedic version of artists like Kanye, Diddy, Eminem and 50 Cent … Double G is a rapper/singer/dancer/entrepreneur/investor, which gives us great story lines on the show. I love playing such a wild character, because you will see some great physical comedy, but he also has heart; he is a single dad that loves his son, Triple G, played by the very talented Benjamin ‘Lil P-Nut’ Flores, Jr. There are so many layers to this character that it is one of those dream-come-true roles.”

This show is expected to come out later this year, and we’ll at least be curious in it. Admittedly we have not watched a Nickelodeon show in forever, but this is a smart move for networks to make in casting some of their iconic actors for new shows. Many who grew up on some of their ’90s programming are now starting to become parents, and this is a way to get multiple generations watching together.
