Preparing for ‘Hell on Wheels’ season 5? Season 4 is now on Netflix

Just one week from Saturday on July 18, the fifth season of “Hell on Wheels” is finally going to leave the station … and you now have an opportunity to properly catch up.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, Netflix officially made available the fourth season of the show, which we would be willing to wager is one of the series’ best. You have a chance to see a variety of different stories, a compelling adversary in John Campbell, and even a few moments where you may laugh. The mud-fight in the season 4 finale is one of our favorite scenes ever.

Of course, season 4 is also one steeped in tragedy. We will not reference everything here (that sort of eliminates the purpose of you going off to watch it) but there are a pair of notable character deaths that may hit you especially hard. Cullen Bohannon leaves this season in a very different place both physically and emotionally from where he started.

There are thirteen episodes in the fourth season, and given how much time there is right now between today in the 18th, you will almost be able to get by watching one installment a day. You will have to double-up occasionally, but don’t you want to be there live for the start of the final season? Sure, the ratings will not lead to any sort of renewal, but it would be nice to see the series leave on a high note. It already has defied some odds, succeeding on a night in Saturdays that was once a cemetery for shows being burned off the schedule.
