‘The Fosters’ season 3, episode 5 review: Callie and Brandon’s woeful trip to Mexico

Fosters -Going into Monday night’s episode of “The Fosters,” we understood some of what Callie was feeling when it comes to her trip to Mexico. She’s a teenager, and feels like she does not have the adventure and spirit in her life that someone her age should. Therefore, she comes up with this idea of living on the edge, and forced Brandon more or less to do the same.

However, it took all of a few short minutes for things to start to fall apart. Hang-gliding alone was dangerous, but the fact that their instructors were not exactly obeying the letter of the law did not help. They had to bribe the police in order to even get out of there, and upon making it back to the order they realized that they had another problem: No passports. This is the sort of thing that you really should read up on before you leave. It’s amazing that they were even able to get into Mexico in the first place.

Upon returning, Callie and Brandon faced consequences, but at the same time he may have another opportunity to dive into the world of music.

The tension between Stef and Lena over contractors was not exactly the best story, at least until the very end when Oscar demanded all of the payment upfront because of his fears that the two were going to be splitting up. This convinced Stef to at least stop the repairs for a minute and enter couples counseling with her.

While there was the whole Mariana story involving sex, that was just a blip on the show’s radar. The AJ story, where he was the victim of racial profiling while on a ride-along with Mike, to us was one of the more powerful scenes of the episode given the current social structure. This episode as a whole was very strong, mostly because it brought so much to the table … including a possibility for AJ and Callie after he moves in with Mike. Grade: B+.
