‘Falling Skies’ season 5, episode 2 spoilers: Will Hal agree with his father?

At the end of last week’s season 5 premiere of “Falling Skies,” we had a chance to witness the Tom character more or less come back to Earth with a very specific mantra of how he wanted things to get done: Everyone had to be extremely cutthroat, and take the inner warrior and run with it. It was a change of philosophy to a certain extent, but that’s to be expected when you have the bizarre experience in outer space that this guy did.

So how is one of Tom’s own children going to respond to this? It may not be as easy as you would think at first for Hal to be completely on board. As the actor Drew Roy explains to TVLine, he is now someone with his own specific thoughts and feelings about things, and him following his dad’s lead is more something that he did many years ago versus something that he is going to stick to today:

“One of the best parts of playing Hal was how he had this long arc from the beginning to end … [In Season 1] he was just this hotheaded kid who would pretty much do anything his dad said. But in the past season and this season, I think he’s finally found his confidence. He has his own opinion about things. So, just because his dad is saying something or trying something, it doesn’t mean he’s necessarily going to go along with it.”

Hal is one of the characters who we really hope somehow finds a way out of this alive. Just look for example at everything that he has been through so far when it comes to his family and his romantic life, and you will have reminders aplenty that he has earned at least something resembling a happy end.
