ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8: Stana Katic’s message, tackling the unknown, and more
We understand that the wait for the new season of “Castle” has been somewhat exhausting for some, and we get it. Virtually, waiting for almost any season of a beloved show can be difficult.
What has been interesting about the past week or so is that we have noticed a general sense of unease among the show’s diehard fans. Maybe there is a certain element of fear that comes from having a new character in Hayley join the mix, someone who may end up spending a lit of time with Castle and shaking up the fabric of the show. There was also that TVLine Blind Item that came out saying that a beloved network show was going to undergo a seismic shift thanks to a couple breaking up. Note that there is no concrete evidence that this is “Castle,” but it would be irresponsible to ignore the fact that there are some out there speculating that it could be this show. (Personally, though, we can think of at least four or five other series that could meet the same sort of criteria mentioned in the article.)
What we would remind you about, for now, is the tweet from Stana Katic below. Is it particularly an endorsement of a storyline? Not exactly, but there’s nothing contractually that requires her to put a message out there giving support to the show and its entire cast and crew. If she is excited about getting back to work July 15, shouldn’t we be inclined to give the team the benefit of the doubt for a little while?
Ultimately, we do have faith in showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley to put together a great story; we haven’t seen what Winter can do yet in this position, but Hawley helped to make “The Following” into a much-improved show during season 3, and we were not particularly a fan of it after its second go-around on the air.
We are going to have some more “Castle” updates during the hiatus over at the link here, so stay tuned. Also, sign up here to have some other TV news sent over to you, courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ABC.)

Stana said last November when ask about re-signing that she wasn’t as bothered by the money as how her character was going to develop. I think it’s pretty obvious that she at the time knew that the series was getting to its sell by date. In the end she waited until the last minute to announce she was re-signing after talking to the new show runners and said she was excited by what they had told her. Let’s hope that they are able to deliver on their promises, and that by the end of season 8 she and Nathan are still happy and are willing to re-sign again.

You may remember that at the end of season 7 Beckett and Castle were developing new bucket lists and career plans. This, coupled with Stana’s desire for further development of her character, should fuel the flames for changes in the series both now and in the future. For example: if Beckett becomes captain of the 12th there are still several steps she can move up in her career. After following her law enforcement career as far as it can go she could then run for the state senate, the U. S. Senate and become chair person for various committees. With regard to the possibility of a baby, I would think that it would be planned and included in the bucket list and possibly career plans. I say possibly career plans because I do not know of any career that could not include children.

ABC wants the series to continue after season 8. Therefore the show runners want it to continue. I believe that both know that the fabric of the series is the Casket love relationship and not he solving of crimes though that is good too. When Stana indicated that season 8 might be a nail biter that to me means that the episodes might have more fear, dread, tension and suspense than usual. I believe, consequently, that the major changes in the series will be in the criminal part versus the Casket relationship.
