‘Orphan Black’ season 4, ‘Doctor Who’ season 9 Comic-Con panels find famous moderators
Years ago, we never would have imagined that Comic-Con moderators would be drawing the sort of headlines that they are today, but that is indicative in many ways of the era we are currently living in. We are now in a fandom culture, where celebrities are embraced for being … well, just like us in how they choose to love things.
Fittingly, it makes sense that Chris Hardwick is going to be moderating the “Doctor Who” Comic-Con panel this year. The comedian / host of “Talking Dead” and “@midnight” is a longtime Whovian; he’s bowled against Matt Smith and Steven Moffat for a web series, attended conventions, and of course has a great deal of experience in this role in general given that he has moderated countless panels over the years. He also happens to have a preexisting relationship with BBC America, as he briefly hosted a talk show for them themed around his Nerdist brand. (Yes, we very much miss it, given also our love for his co-hosts Matt Mira and Jonah Ray.)
Meanwhile, the “Orphan Black” panel (which is going to be on July 10 at 5:45 p.m. Eastern) is going to be moderated by one of the best show-tweeters out there in “Parks and Recreation” star Retta. She’ll bring a whole lot of fun to the proceedings, and Tatiana Maslany, Ari Millen, many other cast members, and the executive producers are all set to be in attendance.
One other quick slice of Comic-Con news to close this off: The “Once Upon a Time” panel will be moderated by Yvette Nicole Brown of “Community” and “The Odd Couple” fame. She briefly voiced Ursula on the ABC series, before the show went out and cast the actual physical role for the second half of season 4.
We’re going to be covering anything and everything related to Comic-Con all next week, so be on the lookout for news!
