‘The Whispers’ season 2 renewal deadline passes with zero news; Lily Rabe’s future in doubt

It could happen -ABC has until this week to determine whether or not they wanted to see more of “The Whispers” on their schedule, so what did they decide? It is as simple as not deciding anything at all … at least for now.

According to Deadline, the network has made the extremely bold move on letting the contracts for most of the cast expire this week, as they felt that there was not enough data to ensure that the show comes back for another run. Cost is apparently one issue here; even with a move to a different filming location in Vancouver, it is still expensive to commit to thirteen episodes’ worth of pay for the entire cast. Lily Rabe in particular is someone who could either depart the series or take a smaller role, given that she has a variety of other commitments that she is interested in taking on. The series could also lose Milo Ventimiglia, who is looking at another project over on USA. Are we somewhat bummed out for fans of the show? Sure, but the reality is that we really should not have seen this coming.

The only reason that “The Whispers” ever found itself in this position was because of ABC waiting so long for the series to premiere. Originally, the show was scheduled to premiere during the season, but it was eventually pushed back into the summer. Had it premiered in its original time, there would have been at least a month for the network to make a decision after the end of the first season.

We will have some other news on this entire situation as time passes, so stay tuned!
