‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ preview: Why is Vicki Gunvalson breaking down?
If you are a loyal viewer of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” then you may remember a part of the preview below from when the trailer first aired earlier this year. It shows Vicki Gunvalson rather unexpectedly collapsing onto the floor in tears while receiving some sort of devastating news over the phone. So often with this show (or any other show, for that matter) we question the validity of what we see. This feels completely real, and something that is honestly very uncomfortable to watch. We understand that this may qualify as “compelling,” but where is the line between that and just depressing television?
While it does not show explicitly why Vicki is breaking down, scuttlebutt and timing seems to suggest that this moment may be when she learned about the death of her mother. To us, that’s something we certainly would not want shown on TV, and you can see how much she is hurting. This moment is teased as well in the episode’s synopsis, and it is about as blunt as blunt can be:
“Vicki gets a phone call that forever changes her life. Shannon offers an olive branch to Meghan when she hosts a Bunco party at her house. Meanwhile, Meghan moves into another house and Heather has an unorthodox date night with Terry that gets a little bloody.”
We definitely feel in this moment for Vicki, and the only thing that we hope from here is that the show manages to handle the aftermath of this revelation with about as much sensitivity as they possibly can, given the circumstances. If that means taking some time away from the cameras, that is more than acceptable. The drama on this show, more often than not, is not anywhere close to something of this nature.
