‘The Flash’ season 2 spoilers: How do Barry and Iris move forward?
At the end of “The Flash” season 1, we got a few pieces of evidence to suggest that there could be something in the future for Barry Allan and Iris West; yet, at the same time there was also a glaring problem standing in their way in Eddie, and Iris suddenly deciding to throw destiny to the wind. Unfortunately for her, Eddie also decided to do the same, and prove that he could be a Thawne worthy of the history books. His decision to sacrifice his life for the sake of stopping Eobard is a a huge move, and one that likely changes the very foundation of her life at the moment.
When you consider all of the heartache that comes along with losing someone, especially someone in Eddie who she lived with, it is fair to say that she and Barry are not exactly going to be getting together right away. As Grant Gustin says per TVLine, these two characters are probably going to stay in the friend zone for at least a little while:
“[Eddie’s death] is definitely a factor, for sure … Barry wants to be there for Iris as her best friend right now. And for Barry, too. It’s too soon for everybody. Some tragic events just took place!”
We’ve already heard that at some point this season, we are going to see a potential new Barry love interest in Wendy, who is going to have some similarities to Felicity Smoak. She is also going to work on the Central City Police. Maybe this story is going to be a slow burn, as Barry could be struggling to get over Iris, as well.
