Conan O’Brien has always shown a complete willingness to have his show take place in a variety of different locations, and with that in mind, can you really be that surprised at all with what he is doing for San Diego Comic-Con? You really should not be. He has set up a series of shows starting on preview night July 8, and over the course of these you are going to see a variety of memorable personalities that are very specific to the convention stop by.
The biggest get of all for Conan may be on July 10, when the casts of both “Game of Thrones” (or at least Alfie Allen, John Bradley Liam Cunningham, Natalie Dormer, Conleth Hill, Hannah Murray, Sophie Turner, Carice Van Outen, and Maisie Williams) and “The Walking Dead” (Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, and Danai Gurira) are going to be in attendance. There are of course scheduling issues that keep every actor from both shows from attending. Plus, the entire “Game of Thrones” cast is probably too big to even fit together on Conan’s stage.
For those wondering about some more of his lineup, Wednesday night’s show will feature Elijah Wood and Chris Hardwick, while Thursday will bring on Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth from “The Hunger Games” franchise. There is a surprise guest (or guests) coming to the show on Saturday.
Obviously San Deigo Comic-Con is as popular a convention as ever, and the fact that you are getting people like Conan in attendance just adds to the commercialization of it in the mainstream even more. Yet, he is a good enough personality, and faithful enough to geeks everywhere, that we appreciate his presence.
